What’s Happening Under the Snow
The pause has a purpose.
It snowed nearly six inches this weekend. The kind that quiets everything. The property is completely covered, a clean blanket of white that makes it look like nothing is happening at all.
But of course, that isn’t true.
Under the snow, the soil is insulated, not frozen solid. Roots are protected. Microbial life slows, but doesn’t stop. Certain plants actually require a period of cold to grow properly. Without it, they never set buds. They never bloom the way they’re meant to.
Some seeds won’t germinate unless they experience winter first.
Animals are doing something similar. Hibernation isn’t just sleep. It’s repair. Metabolism slows. Inflammation drops. Energy is conserved so systems can restore instead of perform.
From the outside, it looks like stillness.
Underneath, it’s preparation.
I think we underestimate how often this applies to us.
There are seasons when nothing visible is happening. No progress to show. No milestones to point to. Just quiet work beneath the surface…resting, recalibrating, taking in different inputs.
We live in a culture that rewards constant output. But nature doesn’t operate that way. Growth is seasonal. Repair is necessary. Pauses aren’t failures, they’re part of the natural cycle.
If you’re in a winter moment right now, personally, professionally, physically, or creatively, this is your reminder that nothing is wasted. The pause has a purpose, even if you can’t see it yet.
Not everything that matters announces itself.
Some things need time, cold, and quiet to become what they’re meant to be.

I can relate to this in all areas of life. Resting, rejuvinating, journaling and tending to what my soul needs. Thank you xo
